Is it your calling to serve our Nation’s Heroes? Avosys is seeking a Family Practice Nurse Practitioner to provide outpatient services to the military and their families at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson, AZ.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive outpatient care for TRICARE Prime enrolled beneficiaries, as well as TRICARE for Life and space available beneficiaries ranging from newborn to geriatric age presenting with complex and interdependent acute and chronic conditions.
  • Serve as the Primary Care Manager (PCM) within the Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) model of health care delivery, will facilitate and manage full spectrum of professional and patient care activities within their scope of practice, and collaborate with their supervising physician in the provision of patient care.
  • Obtain appropriate history and perform physical examination of patients. Types of physicals may include, but are not limited to annual exams, pre/post deployment health assessments, Preventive Health Assessments (PHAs), Security and Overseas Clearances, pre-confinement physicals, Line of Duty (LOD), occupational, fitness evaluations, sports and newborn physicals.
  • Adequately diagnose and treat a wide-range of pediatric and adult diseases and injuries. Formulate differential diagnostic plans. Conditions include, but are not limited to the management of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, asthma, inflammatory and non-inflammatory arthritic conditions, cancer diagnosis/management/surveillance, musculoskeletal injuries, and acute and chronic psychiatric/psychological disorders.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, with implementation of appropriate treatment plan and follow-up care in a cost-effective manner.
  • Prescribe medications as delineated by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
  • Perform medical procedures within credentials and scope of practice. Procedures may include, but are not limited to, casting/splinting, suturing, excisional skin biopsies, vasectomies, and micro excisional dermatologic techniques.
  • Request consultation or referral with appropriate subspecialties, clinics, or other health resources as indicated.
  • Provide advise by telephone, secure messaging, or in person to other providers, nursing and paraprofessional staff on the care of patients.
  • Promote preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling.
  • Identify and report cases which have public health significance and carry out effective control measures.
  • Stabilize and manage patients in a medical or surgical emergency, ensuring appropriate care/transfer to a higher level facility is accomplished as clinically indicated.
  • Communicate orally and in writing with a diverse group of individuals (peers, health care team staff, patients), including clear, precise telephone and electronic communication. Document clinical encounters and patient instructions into the medical record via electronic medical record system per 355 MDG policies.
  • Perform medical exams, reviews, and conduct appropriate military specific documentation such as (but not limited to) narrative medical summaries for Medical Evaluation Boards, medical profiles, and quarters authorization following military specific policies.
  • Maintain a productivity level consistent with Defense Health Agency standards. Ensure compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment facility. Provide care within ethical and legal boundaries.
  • Serve/participate in committees, functions and other meetings as directed. Provide relevant and timely information to these groups, and assists with decision-making and process improvement. Participate in customer service initiatives, and medical readiness activities, designed to enhance health services.
  • Provide accurate and effective guidance and feedback to the medical team members in a collegial and professional manner to facilitate team based clinical operations that result in effective, efficient, timely and cohesive patient care. Participate in orientation, training, and evaluation of duty performance of newly assigned personnel, as appropriate.
  • Complete orientation and competency verification programs in accordance with unit/355 MDG guidelines.
  • Participate in local disaster training exercises as directed by the Chief of the Medical Staff (SGH) or Squadron Commander; responds to real-world disaster situations.
  • Ensure a safe work environment and employee safe work habits. Implement universal infection control practices.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a Family Nurse Practitioner program from an accredited School of Nursing at the time
    of graduation.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience within the last 3 years, preferably in a primary care setting. A privileged nurse practitioner who has graduated from an accredited nursing educational program within the last two years has met the requirements for current clinical competency based on the clinical activity from the accredited nursing educational program.
  • Must have an active unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse and an advanced practice nurse. License cannot be under investigation nor have any adverse action pending from a State Board or national licensing/certification agency.

License - Certifications

  • Nationally certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners
    (AANP) or the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
  • A permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner. License cannot be under investigation nor have any adverse action pending from a State Board or national licensing/certification agency. May be licensed in any of the 50 states.
  • A current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Life
